I am a medic in the Army and when I was pregnant I drove the Ambulance up until I was 7 months(at this point I couldn't get up into the dang thing) I also worked in an emergancy clinic for the duration. Provided you practice good handwashing and don't push yourself too hard you will be find. Remember to trust your body. If you feel uncomfortable then stop. That is all there is to it. It is actually better for your postpartum if you continue to work as you will not gain so much weight. Good luck and Congratulations!

I believe many women who work in the medical field continue until they are too large and uncomfortable. I would say that your doc would have the final call on this one...you might not have an appointment for a few weeks yet, if that is the case, call and ask the receptionist.
Good luck, take care of yourself and have a great pregnancy!

i work in a nursing home and i guess its weather it is a high or low care facility and how much lifting is involved. as you are aware when you do lifting it lays pressure on your whole body if i was in your position i wouldnt be lifting anyone that lays strain on yourself, buddy up with someone use all lifting aids when possible even the use of lifting belts when the resident isnt usually in need of one but it will help you. i think it depends on you yourself but theres no way i would be doing to much one to one manual handling just take things easy or use your buddy system when you come to do the lifts. good luck and remember look after your body more now than what you use to????

Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not. Also, talk to your doctor.
Good Luck!

Your fears are unfounded. Please remove all misconception from your mind that prenancy is something special. It is just a body process as natural as coughing etc Cases are known where physcal labour workers had goneon working until the onset ofthe labour pains, delivered in a makeshift shelter, washed the child in COLD water, nursed it , laid it down under a tree shadow and herself went back to the half-finished work.Just take usual precautions about lifting weight etc.

i worked in a nursing home and to be honest there not he best to do with a pregnancy the older people carried disease as you know that you have to get shots for and some of them there is none plus you can't bring drinks in to the residents room for your self so my advice would be to take per cautions when handling the residents for disease control ,between residents get drinks often, and never try and lift one by your self, also when you get a bit further along don't push and pull that's a lot of weight and could lead in a disaster for you

If you're only 5 weeks pregnant I think it is perfectly safe to work there, unless the nursing home is very unsanitary. Just keep working until you get maternity leave.

I used to a cna when I was young and yes that job is really tough and you have to do a lot of lifting I would recommend you to either quit or ask your team leader to have you doing lite work.

I'm 4 months pregnant and work in an emergency department- along with other pregnant trauma nurses. As long as you keep taking precautions, keep in touch with your OB/Gyn, you should be okay.
