I've read "Into Thin Air" and loved it. I was never a book reader and started that book while on a long train ride. I couldn't put it down. I thought it was very well written. It has launched my onto a non-fiction reading bonanza for the last 6 years.
I don't think I've read the others on your list. "A Walk in the Woods" sounds familar. If the author's last name is Bryson . .. then. . it was a little boring. There are funny parts and Bryson is a good story teller . .. but there isn't any overall punch to the book. I didn't quite finish it.

All of the first three. Crime and Punishment's good...really long, but good...Catch-22 is confusing, but it's a good read, and A Walk in the Woods is hilarious. If I had to pick one out of the three, I'd say A Walk in the Woods. And get some of his other stuff, too. I'm A Stranger Here, Myself is another good one of his.

I am only familiar with one of the books mentioned. It is 'Into Thin Air', of which I have read major segments. It is excellent, and tells the true story of an ill-fated expedition up Mount Everest. Jonathon Krakauer, the author, is an excellent writer, of non-fiction. I believe that he used to work as an adventure writer. He has written other good books, one about Utah, but I cannot recall the exact titles of the other books. I would highly recommend this book.

Into Thin Air is the only one I've read and I would reccomment it because it is an exciting and famous book about a tragic adventure onto Mt. Everest. It is written in a fictitious style, but is a true story. I have passed on my copy to many friends and I have yet to hear a negative review!

Crime and Punishment is a classic so definitely read that. Of the others, I have only read My Losing Season. Definitely a great read. In fact, read any Pat Conroy book you can get your hands on. He is one of the best storytellers of our time. "Loss is a fiercer, more uncompromising teacher, coldhearted but clear-eyed in its understanding that life is more dilemma than game, and more trial than free pass."--from My Losing Season.

out of all of these books I have only read Crime and Punishment, but I recommend it, as it is a timeless tale of the burden of being stuck with a human consicence. it is an enveloping and fascinating read.
