This has been a HUGE issue for the Democratic Party. We have always believed that we need to become independent from other countrys oil reserves. That way we dont need to be in places like Iraq. Jimmy Carter had solar panels installed on the wWhite House in 1978 and Reagan had them removed. What does that tell you!!! Looks over function and cost?

Clinton and Gore were in Executive power from 1992-2000. WHY didn't they do anything about the environment and energy sources then? The Kyoto Treaty was up before them for their review and approval, solar energy has always been there for our government to accept and promote, and yet during eight years of a Democratic administration, absolutely nothing was done! We know the Republican party has never been front and center on these issues. But what happened to the Democrats??? Quit blaming everything on the Bush administration!

Democrats have been leading the way on alternative energy sources (including solar power) for over 30 years. During most of that time many of their efforts have been fought strongly by the Republican party and their "friends" the oil companies. Alternative energy sources mean less money for the oil companies, so they have a long history of fighting the use of any other kind of energy.
There are, of course, exceptions -- there are republicans that are for alternative energy, and democrats that are against it. But overall it's pretty much along party lines...democrats FOR solar and alternative energy, republicans AGAINST them.
Don't believe W's promotion of ethanol recently -- notice how he made a big show of speaking about it, but nothing more has happened? His budget contains no increases in spending to promote ethanol or any other alternative energy...it was all a diversion to take the public's mind off high gas prices, and it appears to have worked since noise about it has died down, so W's back to cutting 35 billion from Medicare and returning over 400 billion to his rich pals in tax cuts...

I would say the democrats, since Jimmy Carter was the first president to implement a energy plan. His plan called for looking into alternative energy programs. He was very interested in solar energy and wind energy. He felt we could place enough wind mills in the Midwest to power most of the United States of America. Unfortunately for America, and thur suspect means and possibley illegal means,(the reason I say possibley illegal means was there was no investigation or indictements. But according to what I read the Consittution to say is simply that it is illegal to conspire with the enemy. Since neither were operating under direct orders from Jimmy Carter, it would be a safe bet that he was unaware of their negioations as he was actively persuing his own at the time.) Ronald Regan and George H.W.Bush conspired with the Iranians to negotiate a deal for the release of hostages, part of that deal included holding the hostages until after the elections. One of the first things the Regan/Bush team did was to gut Jimmy Carter's conservative energy plan for America. Since the political leaders coming from the Republican party are mostly backed by big oil it would be a very educated guess to assume that the republicans are not intrested in alterative fuel sources. Best example of this is Iraq, instead of investing billions in development of a cheap alterative energy source the Republican majority in all three branches of government elected to steal Iraq's oil/treasury and involve the citizens of this nation in an illegal war, based on lies and a hidden agenda of the neocons.

The Republicans claim to be for "alternative energy" but it is all lip service as they are in the pockets of big business and oil companies! I am not sure of an official stand by the Democrats(except Gore) but anyone with half a brain has to admit that we need to lower our dependence on oil. But we went thru all this before in the 1970's, when oil was rationed and what has happened? Nothing! Because, the oil companies and auto companies won't allow it!

Neither party has a monopoly on solar power, but I would say if possible, the REPUBLICAN PARTY has the edge, because most of the new houses going up, about 1/4 of them has solar power.

I think neither republicans nor democrats are for solar power, but there is a minor party called the green party, which is for alternative energy, such as solar power!
