I read an article today that started out with this line..."Ryan B graduated from his high school in may and this weekend he will tie the knot with his classmate and 18 year old fiance' Wendy A." The article goes on to justify the marriage because Ryan is leaving for Iraq to fight with the US armed forces. My question is why do people that are 18 jump into something like this? The article gave no reason other than...oh they are happy together and they've been dating for TWO WHOLE years...WTF people? I know they are 18 and all, but where are the families and friends of these people to talk some sense into them? It makes me want to scream!!!...but not loudly. lol.

I'm not sure! My personal opinion is that if you are going to spend the rest of your lives together anyway, what's the rush to tie the knot? Are people worried that someone will change their mind if they don't do it quickly enough?!

Maybe in the example you gave the couple's motivation for getting married before he goes to Iraq is to guarantee her a war widow's pension (or what ever they are called) just in case.

I'm 21 and quite a few people that I went to school with are married already! I hate to sound so negative but the way I see it is that by the time I'm getting married, they will already be getting divorced!

You know, there are some 16/18 year olds out there who are more mature and more ready to undertake a REAL marriage than some 30/40/50 year olds. Honestly. I knew two kids in high school that got married and now...almost 20 years later, they are still married...and very happy. And the issue wasn't kids/sex...both knew at a young age they never wanted to be parents.

I take it case by case. Honestly.

My husband was 22 when we married, but we both knew and both lived out our marriage vows from the time he was 19. 13 years later, we are strong and happy.

My grandparents were married when she was 15 and he was 17. Not a shotgun wedding by any means...LOL. They were happily married until his death. My other grandparents married when they were 18 and were married for well over 60 years until her death.

I can see the whole 'get married before going to war' thing...he wants to get married before he dies. I think that's okay. Plus he will have given her social security to collect, why the hell should the state keep it?! Personally, I got married too young because I had a dillusion that it would give my son more access to his dad. I was so stupid. Men could be just as good dad's to their kids without being married to their mom. Notice I said COULD doesn't actually mean they can be a good dad at all. Okay, I'm done venting. Thank you,

Young marriage- Aries (impulsive), Pisces (fall in love particularly speedy and deep), Cancer (determined for a loved ones lifestyles), or Leo (younger marriage indicates they are able to do matters which might be glamorous each time they wish. Libras love romance, so them too. Late marriage- Aquarius, Gemini (each indifferent and prefer freedom), Sagittarius (unfastened spirit, likes not to be tied down), Virgo (wary and gradual in choice making)

I really do not know why. It really is a persons choice however when they choose to marry. Whether it be young or old. I know that some people are waiting to marry til their thirties .... I married at 30 to my wife so not everyone marries young. And our oldest daughter is nineteen and in college and has a boyfriend but is not in any hurry to marry.

People get married young because they think they have all the answers to life. They do not want to wait to grow up.

there should be a law, you need to be at least 24 y/o to get married. this marriage has a very low chance of making it.

I'm not sure why, maybe cause they feel that they might not find someone better. I give their marriage a few months before they get divorced.
