I personally prefer IBM for a laptop but if I had to choose between Dell and Compaq it would be Dell hands down!

After working with over 100 dell computers/laptops i would definately go with compaq. Dell computers are always having problems with hardware failing.

Looks and prices can be deceiving.
Personally I recommend IBM laptops although they are expensive and not much to look at.
But based off your question there, I recommend going for a Dell. Compaq is owned by Hewlett Packard and HP makes some of the worst and cheapest computers on the market.
Dell is of medium quality for laptops and they do run well although they're prone to having harddrive problems.

I have a compaq and it works excellent... I think dells are better for desktops...compaqs are really light weight and good if you travel a lot

i would go with the dell. my daughter and i both have dell laptops and not a minute of trouble with them. go for dell.
