For about the past 10 years it's become cool to give your child rare, made-up, strange, or old-fashioned names. What do you think of the trend?

I love it. My name is Ashley and in my classes at school there were always 3-4 Ashleys since I was in kindergarten. Now when your kids go to school there wont be too many of the same names and your kid can actually feel like an individual instead of just another "ashley".

I think that the new baby name trend is very unique. I like old-fashioned names all the way to the new and rare names. Like for girl's I like the name Devyn and for boys I have always liked the name Zachariah. I think some of the names are wierd like Hedwig which is Old German or Brunhilda which is Slavic. I still think that some of the names are cool though. I have a baby name book that i like to look at even though i'm not expecting a baby anytime soon.

I personally like unique names. I don't however like made-up names for example putting two names together. Old fashioned names are the best I think, especially when you can modernize them like Jo could be short for Josephine or Ollie for the name Oliver. Strange names usually are trendy which I don't like. Unique names are cool I think, just as long as they follow a few "naming rules".

an opinion from the other side of the world:-). but the trend is everywhere. personally, i think that this trend is wonderful and unique, and your name is definately a part of your personality, your mark. so, it should be unique in its own way, as it reflects the feelings and personality of your parents, as well as helping build your own picture of yourself. my name is Mirna, and it's not very common here... but my mum liked it a lot. although it means "tranquile"- direct opposite of my personality- it is an important part of me and i don't mind that it's nt very common and is considered "modern". always give special and meaningful names. personally, i like the anme Arwen, also Erin and Aisha. when i have a baby, i will name her one of them. if it's a boy, it will be danis or Eric. none of these are common here, so the babies will be special always and everywhere. just don't overdo it ! (moses, apple, atc). lots of luck!

I don't like it because I really don't think people are thinking about the child when they grow up and are stuck with a name that may make them feel odd and different, or even be made fun of. I think children have enough obstacles to overcome there name shouldn't be one of them..

I think it is because people are tired of hearing another Katie or Emily and there are about 4 in every class. Unique names are fun and individual. That is what makes our world. It is boring to all be the same.

I think it's great to be creative. Remember when they called "Jennifer" during roll call in school and 4 different girls raised their hands. Boo on that!

I think the resurgence of medieval fantasy books and movies is stirring the name pot very well.

I love it! Now, if there were some way to repell kids from making fun of eachother's unique names...it would be a perfect world. :)

I think it makes life more interesting, but I'm not so sure I would name my kid apple or Moses. One is just stupid and the other seems disrespectful.
