Just curious. But then again, I am white, so that will be held against me.

of course not, as long as you are a U.S. citizen, have good credit rating and a clean criminal record, and are well qualified for the job, you have a good chance of bagging the job, all you have to do is apply

Hello, the Federal Government hires 1000's and 1000's of people each year, you have to apply.

You will be given points according to work experience, time on varoius jobs, education and/or training in a specific field.

And of course being willing to move to where they are hiring.

For example if you wish to be a Federal Prison officer, you may not find a opening in your state, but in another state.

As for as being white, I can't speak for right now, but yes that can hurt, as a manger that did hiring, I was forced three times to hire less experienced minority people ( women and black) over more experienced white canidates.

Also those that have prior military and/or prior federal service get some extra attention.

In our department basicly you got into the final three picks by merely the paper work. Then the department head choice the one of the three they liked the best.

It is not impossible, but knowing someone helps. And stop whining about that "oh, I'm white, they'll give the job to a minority first." I used to work for the feds and there were only a few minorities in our department. Granted, it may depend on what branch of federal government you work for. If it's the postal serivice, you might find a lot more minorities, but that doesn't mean you won't get the job.

Generally....and sadly, yes.

Especially if you're both male, and caucasian. Due to good ole racial discriminatory "equalizers" like some current policies currently in place....Affirmative Action for example.

If you're a minority, and/or female....you're AUTOMATICALLY placed before someone of caucasian descent, as well as placed before males of any skin color.

It's a bunch of shite if you ask me.

And to be honest, if I was a considerate of this policy, I'd take it as an insult. It's better to be judged on your SKILLS...not your skin and/or gender.

Now, this also depends on the state in question you're applying for : if you live in a Common"wealth" state....good luck.
