Either a fuse or a bad wire.
Ha ha. Completely forgot about the bulb just being burnt out. Nice catch. Check the bulb first. then the fuse, then the wiring in that order.

Usually it is the brake light switch. On many cars it is located under the dash and is activated by pushing on the brake pedal. Sometimes it can be adjusted to make the lights work again. I would start there since it is the item which gets the most wear. Then proceed to the fuse and wire gambit.

dunno what car it is but if you aint tried everything everybody else has told you to check try the little plastic switch situated above the brake pedal. This sometimes moves or becomes dislodged and stops the brake lights from working as it brakes the earth connection till the pedal is pressed. if it is under the impression that the pedal is not pressed the lights will stay off even though you have pressed the pedal

If the fuse isn't burnt, there could be a short in the wires.
