I think someone in my family wanted it gone, and hid it from me. I cannot find it on the toolbar search list or anywhere

I have gone to the view button and selected the customize option. However the selection of history is completely missing from the list

This happend to me, go to View on toolbar, click toolbars, click customize and move history from the left to the right!

Assuming you are using Internet Explorer, click on View in the menu and select Toolsbar, then Customize. You can add or remove any buttons you want (including History) just by moving them between the right and left sides of the window.
