The trouble with the people of this country is they vote to get party's out - not in. So all they do is swap something that they hate for something they don't really care about and then moan when what they don't care about turns out to be something they hate.

Whilst there are three main parties (Labour, Conservative and Liberal Democrats) i dont think there really is a second party. At the moment, Labour are in government with a (slender) majority. The 'second' party would be the conservatives at the moment, referred to as the opposition. In giving seats in parliament, we operate a 'first past the post' system. I'm unclear as how exactly it works, but i think its when there is a benchmark (to stop the minority having a louder voice in parliament) And then all votes past that benchmark are percented then allocated. Eg Labour get 56, Tories 45, lib dems 30. Lets say the 'post' is set at 25. Labour would get 56% of the seats, tories 35% and lib dems 9%. This is supposedly unjust because if you get 24, your party has no place in parliament. (again unclear on this but this is how i think it works)
Anyway, I think i've answer the question somewhere!! But the reason i dont really think there is a second political party anymore is because (in my view) they are all, almost merging. The Conservatives are changing their policies, and now have more of a labour 'feel' to them. Which in my view was only done so they could get elected next time, which makes them unworthy competitors because they arent sticking to their guns. And labour are moving further left, so they are becoming like the lib dems, so i see it moving to a point where the tories are like labour who in turn are like the lib dems! Now thats a one horse race!
