I used to live in the Cleveland area. There are still some nice parts of Euclid, like those that border on South Euclid and Richmond Heights. Normally the areas where more homeowners reside are like that, though. I think Euclid gets some of its worse reputation from the numerous rows of apartments along Lake Shore and the riff raff they bring in. Not to mention that when I was there, a lot of the building interiors were old and not well maintained. A friend still lives in one of them, and she said they remodled everything -finally! Overall, I don't think Euclid is *that* bad.

Euclid has changed through the years but as a community is VERY concerned that it stay a good place to live and work. The whole greater Cleveland area (almost all of northeast Ohio) is working on many issues that have to do with quality of life -- employment, government, education, etc.
It is a much more diverse community than it used to be, and much of the housing stock is from the 1950s, much of which has been immaculately maintained. It is close enough to Cleveland that you can go many places on public transportation. It has lost several huge employers through the years, but The Lincoln Electric Company is still headquartered there and is an anchor for the industrial base.
All in all I would feel very comfortable moving and living there, particularly if you want urban access yet want a more suburban feel.

I have fond memories of Euclid because my grandma moved there when she came to the US in the 60's. I still have an aunt living there (her daughter). It used to be a close knit German community. My granny never drove a car and got around the city on the public transportation. It had the reputation of being a safe, bedroom community and I think it is still.
