Was thinking this today when I spilt some salt and automatically threw some over my left shoulder- where the devil sits, right? Just made me think..can I go through life without doing that..Yes I can but as OCD is SO 'fashionable' now..are some superstitions becoming OCD's?? Over to you - what do you think?

My cousin has OCD and from my understanding you'd do it over and over again until you felt it was done right. i.e. my cousin one day was 1 hour late for work because he felt that when he took his shirt off the hanger the first time it wasn't done right so he had to put it back on the hanger and take it off again until he got it right otherwise he felt like something bad would happen to him or he'd just plain old have a bad day.

You will KNOW you have OCD when you start counting and have to do the same thing a certain number of times eg if you had to throw the salt nine times in a row and you would go crazy if it wasn't done exactly nine times. Even if the house was on fire-you couldn't leave until you dashed the salt over your shoulder NINE times or whatever the number you're obsessed with. Some OCD people have to do things fifty times or more. Can you imagine that? As far as I can tell you definately do NOT have ocd-all of us have our little superstitions LOL Relax-you're normal. :-)

I never used to think I was superstitious but I too find myself avoiding walking under ladders, never putting new shoes on a table and i am always saluting magpies!

If I don't do it, I don't worry about it so I guess that is not classed as OCD!!. If I lay awake worrying about it then I would think I had a problem!
