As in saying "knock on wood" so as not to jinx something? And if there's no wood around, do you knock on your head? (I do this *giggle*)

If I say knock on wood then I do have to knock on any wood surface. I am not really that superstitious, but I think I got this from my parents doing it jokingly. It has just been passed down from generation to generation.

I don't think I've ever knocked on my head though...I'd be afraid it might echo! :)

Yes, I do. If there's no wood around I try to find at least a piece of paper or something, and if I don't find anything like that I just wait until I do.

I only knock on wood if it's a closed door and, respecting people's privacy, I want to see if it's okay if I open the door. I used to do what you say in your question, but my knuckles just got tired of being abused, and I found I was too hard-headed to do any good abusing my skull too, so . . ., I just scaled down my "knuckling down" to closed doors, out of respect of others' privacy. Makes me feel better all around, knuckles and all. God Bless you.
