When does a child lose his or her innocence?

Or are the aforementioned charachteristics inherent from birth?

I think a child loses their innocence at different points in thier life, depending on what's happened in their lives. What they've seen, experienced or whatnot. For example, there's the foster child that's been sexually abused at 6 years old. Then there's the sheltered kid whose parents wouldn't dream of striking, even as discipline.

I think sadistic, cruel, mean tendencies aren't inherent from birth, rather, they grow over time. How a person was raised, what they've seen, everything they've been through. All that and more accounts for how they'll behave in the future.

It depends on the person. Some children are born with a chemical imbalance or other issue which causes them to be sadistic, cruel and mean from birth or early childhood. Some people learn it as they get older as a defense mechanism or a way to control their surroundings. Some people experience a total personality transformation after a head injury or illness, etc.

It completely depends upon such a wide variety of factors that you can not possibly generalize the issue.

A person can't be diagnosed as a personality disorder until they are 18, according to the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM), at whichever version they're up to now. They can be "diagnosed" as having personality disorder traits, whichever they may have, at an earlier age, but a full scale disorder diagnosis is at age 18. Now, throwing all that aside, since the APA doesn't know as much as they like to think they do and their diagnoses are VERY political as well as the behavioral they like to claim, a human being has a wide array of behavioral options to choose from in life, and when they discover one or more of their choices to be particularly potent in resolving their problems, they use it again, and to a greater degree. We are "creatures of habit". It takes the least mental and emotional energy, and we are lazy. And the old phrase "more is better", aka:"Supersize Me!" is a heavily relied upon "no-brainer" and used quite often, and so habits get born out of using seemingly successful "remedies" in the past, whether we used them or we saw others use them, whether it be on tv, by friends, family or whomever else. Now, my answer might not suit you well if you're trying to answer a question in a psychology class or doing a paper in the same field. It's just 20+ years in that profession has revealed a lot to an attentive practitioner, and it's not always pretty what you see. God Bless you.

I believe that people can be BORN mean. Or, certainly, they can be completely ruined before they are able to walk or talk.
