"The Real Inspector Hound" by Tom Stoppard....it's a twisted mystery of positively bizarre proportions.
For more traditional approaches, you could certainly try "An Inspector Calls" or "Ten Little Indians".

I highly recommend "The Murder Room" for a comedy. We did it at my high school and it was hilarious! Basically it's about a gold-digging wife who will stop at nothing to get her elderly husbands money. It takes place in England, and all the character's have an English accents. There are only six characters, 3 guys and 3 girls. Trust me, just read it and you'll love it. For a drama, we did "The Adding Machine" and "The Glass Menagerie". Glass is more traditional. Adding was written by Elmer Rice and is totally bizarre but captivating.

Rumors is an excellent play. We did a production of it at my school and it was my ultimate favorite play we put on. It's intense with drama, comedy, and yet mystery at the same time. I'm not sure who wrote the play but if you can get your hands on a copy of it, definitely check it out.

i did crimes of the heart about two years ago. it was made into a movie. you could probably get a copy of the script from a local library. It's a dark comedy though so it's a little different, but lots of fun for a high school production

anything by Agatha Christie like MOUSETRAP (already mentioned) or TEN LITTLE INDIANS (it's got a slightly larger cast that M'TRAP)
MUSICAL COMEDY MURDERS OF 1940 is hilarious and a mystery and has a little music to boot (but not a lot).
Ray Cooney has written a lot of fun, silly comedies. he's worth looking into.

I saw a highschool production of The Mousetrap and it was really good! They had the audience put in their vote of who they think "dun it" and announced it at intermission. It was really fun!

Well. . . our school did "Seusical" and it was HILARIOUS! They did it REALLY well though. . .
also, "Annie Get Your Gun" is funny. . .
"Secret Garden" is amazing....
The musical "Cowgirls" is fun,
ummm.... those are all musicals though...
also, "Wicked" is GREAT. But it's on broadway now, and would be hard to get rights for...
Another one that's really funny is "Sweet Charity".
If you want drama - "Les Miserables" is very deep...
that's all i can think of now..
