Is the "blue dot" that goes on some brake lights legal?

Its a small dor,bout the size of a dime or quarter?
i need to drill the hole into my tail lens(brakelight) and insert it,but i want to make sure it is leagal?

Not in California. Blue lights are reserved for emergency vehicle use only. Check with your local law enforcement agency.
