I recently bought a 91 acura. I had it checked, and the guy said it was alright. But, I was getting a tire put on and the mechanic said he noticed a leak in the transmission seal. I have noticed that the car does leak. When I look under the car, it is leaking on the left side, kind of by where the transmission fluid dipstick is. The dipstick says the level is ok. The car runs pretty well, except sometimes its slow going up hills. I just tried to start it and it made starting noises but the engine wouldnt engage. But, I think its just the gas, I may be out :) Hopefully. The mechanic who said this is a tranny seal leak said it would cost 1000 dollars to fix. First, does this sound like a tranny seal? and second, is that estimate correct? Thanks.

Ya, that mechanic said there was a piece loose that has to do with the transmission, he called it the "seal" and if it comes off the car will die... I have to say, I havent seen it leak much lately. The transmission fluid level never goes down.. I will get 2nd opinion. Yup, I ran outta gas yesterday. That was a funny comment about getting my boyfriend to help me. He is pretty useless for car or money matters. I'm basically on my own for that stuff. He travels alot so hes not around to help. sigh

wow, dont do that you ALWAYS want to get a second opinion,go to a foregien dealer, they know about the cars better than a american dealer. as for the transmission,it might just be the gasket.which can be repalced for well below 100$(if u got a man he SHOULD learn or help out with this), and if you have the A/C running almost everywhere you go(even uphill)it will cause the car to slow, since another belt is running off the engine when it is on.but really,go get a second opinion,(if you go to a actuall ACURA dealer, they WILL warranty the work,so if it f0up again, they can help out.good luck,i bet it sucks not knowing whats wrong till its too late!bye sweetie!also, there is a ring around the dipstick at the base where the transmission stick runs in,sometiimes that rubber ring goes bad so it might be that too.;)

It sounds like the O ring that is around the filler tube, or it could be the leakage of a messy fill into the tube. Clean it off real good and see which item is the leaker.
