Cat wins. Toast effect, while statistically real, is purely due to standard table height and standard toast dimensions - it tends, by boring old geometry and gravity, to land with the side down that was, while on the table, up. The cat, on the other hand, puts some thought, concentration, effort and natural skill into landing the right way up. Cat lands feet down, floor remains unbuttery. Unless cat licks toast on way down, but most cats have a pretty strong sense of immediate priorities and can "park" some tasks for later when more pressing matters require their attention. Toast remains unlicked.

Basically, the cat would be stuck on its side until another cat/animal licks the butter off, or the butter completely absorbs into the toast so it's dry. Then the poor cat will be able to stand up and walk around.

Well, I just did it and discovered that they never land. They just keep spinning and spinning until the end of time.
That's great, because now I have a spinning cat with buttered toast duct taped to it's back floating around in my kitchen, and I'm afraid to touch it.

It will spin until the cat dies, and then it will land on the butter side.
