this guy on my football team, he wants to be quarterback too, he said to me few weeks ago he is going to the quarterback,and i got a letter from my coach saying i was going to be starting quarterback and backup running back, i dont want to lose a freind, (my best freind) but i know its the truth to tell him what coach really said.... i dont know...im freshman by the way,

as with all sports, hopefully the better man gets the position. tell your friend, if he truly wants the position, he will still try out for it. if he beats you, accept it. if you beat him out for the position, it will be his decision to be adult enough to accept the coach's decision.

Tell your friend that you just receive a letter from coach saying that you got the field position, tell him that you hope he understand, tell him that you are really sorry, and tell him you thought it would of been best to here it from you.

It would be better for your friend to hear it from you than from someone else, so yes you should tell him, as nicely as you can.
