6(2x + 8) - 6 =0
12x + 48 - 6 = 0
12x + 42 = 0
12x = -42
x = -42/12
x = -3.5

I'd help, but your question makes no sense..
Did you mean "6 times the sum of twice a number and 8 is decreased BY 6"??
x = "a number"
(2x +8) is sum of twice a number and 8
6 * (2x +8) - 6 =
12x + 48 - 6 =
12x + 42

As you gave no equivalency, I cannot determine the number.

6 * (2x + 8) - 6 = y

Is that what you want? You should explain yourself better, as in what you want.

12x+48=x-6
11x=-54
x=-54/11
