I mean, the whole world but US likes football. Is it because Americans just cannot face the fact that their team is 'not that good'?? They put the blame on the game, saying it's boring, low scoring, soft, etc. C'mon now....

I think your intuitions are right about how Americans can't handle facing up to the fact the team USA really sucks. (I mean the USA CZE match yesterday was a humiliation for all Americans) But on the other hand, most other countries have been playing soccer for many generations more than Americans have. The highschool I went to started their soccer program in 1992, and youth soccer in my town didn't start until 1995! So if you look at it that way, it's amazing that the USA was able to send a team to the WM at all, and maybe in 2 or 3 more generations, they will actually be able to score a goal there.

You're putting the cart before the horse. For the longest time, the team sucked because soccer is not popular in the US. We have too many other sports to compete with that no other country has, so most of our best athletes were not going out for soccer.

Compared to American football, it is soft and low scoring.

Ok. If the team sucks like you say. Why are they in the World Cup? Why are so many US players playing in first division teams in Europe?

The sport in the US is growing. Yes, they got abused today losing 3-0. That means they had a bad game. Not that they suck.

Also, look at what happened in the World Cup in 2002. They finished in the best 8 in that tournament.

I think it's because we have so many national sports to be intersted in, such as Baseball and American Football, that this really just doesn't attract our attention as much. It is getting more popular now as the younger generations are growing up playing it...

To Kiler; "no, there are just IGNORANT uneducated americans which don't even know where is England and I'm for real"
I'm AMERICAN, not uneducated, and was in England during the '02 World Cup. You sound very ignorant.

The USA wants to be different than anyone else in the world, and just can't see what a great game soccer is in reality.

They play American football and think its great and better than soccer/the real football, for heaven's sake! After that they could think anything.

Well to be honest with you I just dont think that many Americans are that interested in the sport in general. Most of our past generations have been raised on american foot ball and base ball and that shouldnt mean that we are embarrased by our soccer team. Hell, they qualified and even made it to the quaterfinals in 2002, but in order to keep that from being a total fluke...we gotta qualify this year through the "Group of Death" even with our shacky start with Czech. The sport is growing with popularity and is enticing more and more americans to follow it, but if you want to talk about a boring sport...talk about golf. Soccer is amazing....hands down...and i still have faith in my team

um, if the team sucks then they wouldn't be in the World Cup.

In my opinion, people here don't like the sport because it's not their own invention and they are not the best at it...look at baseball, football and basketball. The US is without a doubt the best at these sports and people enjoy the fact that it is "American".

its not as popular bc the US had baseball and american football while most othr countries hav always had soccer...yea part of the reason is the lack of skill compared to othr teams...interest in increasin due to the high rankin in the world 4 US but they cant be losin big games like 2day if they want to keep it up

and todays performance...well losing 3-0 is like losing 56-0 in football. im hurting. But anything can happen with our team.
