I had a thyroid ultrasound today. I started Levothyroxin on 6/9/06 because my count was up to 9. (I was told my thyroid was large when being checked for allergies and that got the ball rolling.) When I was leaving the hospital I passed a room where the radilogist was reading my scan (I heard him say my name and was turning around thinking someone needed me) When I realized he was reading the scan, I of course, hung around. He said it was enlarged but he kept saying "right side, solid mass". Would he use those words to simply describe the thyroid. I thought it was funny that the girl doing the scan stayed on the lower right side, almost under my collarbone, for so long. Thought? I can't call for results until tommorow.

You are in luck, I had a thyroid ultrasound done recently also, as I have had thyroid issues for five years now, plus I have had other thyroid related tests. If you would like, I can email you and go into details and discuss wth you my experiences. You have nothing to worry about, though. I heard those same words..."right side, solid mass".

I had an overactive thyroid for several years. Here's what I think.

When the thyroid enlarges I think that it is because is fills with fluid (the only other thing would be inflamation and we would feel that - it would be sore, right?) so probably the right side is more clogged than the other and you can feel that by touching it. It is easiest to feel the thyroid from behind, but you can feel it and get a sense of it's size and spongyness you might say.

I have been medication free for several years now. The thing that helped me most (besides my awesome family chiropractor) as a book by Louise Hay called You can heal Your Life. After reading that book and really understanding I think think about 6 months later I was off all medication.

I also have a friend who was diagnosed with a thyroid problem and she started sleeping with her feel elevated and no pillow - thinking that the extra blood flow to that area would help, and it did. in 1 month she had no trace of thyroid problem with no medication at all.

Peace!

it's powerful how cash is wasted in american well being method. The first actual step in any thyroid ailment is to have a blood experiment for TSH. If that's irregular then a needle must be inserted within the thyroid and get a few cells out to ship to pathology lab to look whether it is melanoma or no longer. normally there isn't even a necessity for needle. the blood paintings can comfortably are expecting the healing. As to ultrasound displaying melignancy or no longer, the reply isn't any. Melignancy can most effective be identified via watching on the cells beneath microscope.

anyway, the signs are:fatigue and lack of energy. Women suffering from underactive thyroid experience heavier menstrual periods. Sluggishness and forgetfulness are symptoms of underactive thyroid problem. Other symptoms of this thyroid disorder are dry skin and hair and constipation.
if you have high thyroid, or an overactive one, the signs are:increased body metabolism. This is followed by weight loss and excessive warmth and sweating. Women with overactive thyroid or hyperthyroidism may experience shorter or lighter menstrual periods.

"A thyroid nodule that appears to be a solid cluster of tissue that is distinct from the remainder of the thyroid gland on ultrasound is referred to as a solid nodule. The vast majority of solid nodules are benign. Solid nodules that grow to certain dimensions may be regarded as more suspicious for possible cancer."

A solid mass could indicate you have a nodule in your thyroid. Like somewhere around 95 percent of nodules are benign.
