It seems your friend is very frightened about coming out. As a friend, he needs to hear that you care and accept him and will be there after he does come out. You could drive him there or walk him to the door, but he should have the conversation alone. By doing it alone he gains more strength and his family will feel less threatened. However, you should also be available after he does reveal this.
Also, friends that I know who have come out, were frightened, but I already knew that they were gay, so that might be the case too.

go to a local gay club and let him experience the gay club scene, he will get to know other gay males as mates and eventually he will meet someone.
