I have met Polish people that new everything about European politics and history, could hold a very logical conversation using facts and figures and yet feel like they have a sheep on their shoulder because coming from Eastern Europe they feel they always have to prove themselves; and on the other hand I have met completely non cultured americans, that were loud and so ignorant it was embarrasing and yet they thought they were on the top of the world because they are the richest nation in the world (although it is changing with China)... it reminds me of something in the Bible that was like ' and last will become first, and the first will become last...' discuss...

It use to be that people in Eastern Europe had nothing and an education was the only way to have any hope of bettering their lives. In America have free enterprise that helps us do this along with education. Here a person with just a high school ed can make more than a person with a masters degree (I know some). We can do what we want, live where we want, think what we want. We have SELF ESTEEM. As for the first will be last and the last will be first that has to do with having the true gospel. First the Jews were the only ones with religion and now the gentiles have in thier possession the true gospel.

It depends on the person. I think a lot of factors go into a person's intelligence: upbringing, envrionment are probably the two biggest. A kid's parents may really stress the importance of a good education and expose them to as many different things as possible. Also, poor neighborhoods aren't going to have the best schools.

What you are talking about is not intelligence but education. Yes, we in America are lacking in that area. Our children are not expected to work up to their potential and brighter children are not given the extra stimulation that they need to keep from being bored. We concentrate too much on bringing all along at the same pace when we should divide them according to ability and let them move at their own pace.

In Europe, the children are selected after the sixth or seventh grade to go to trade school or to"high school". Not everyone is expected to go on to college but everyone is expected to do their best.

Like anything, there is a wide range of intellects but true intelligence is the ability to learn and almost everyone has the potential, it is usually the motivation that is lacking.
