My mother was watching a show on the health channel that was about polycystic ovarian syndrome. She swears I have all the symptoms and should speak with my gynecologist about being tested for it. I have never heard of the condition and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience or has information about PCOS?

It is an abnormal condition characterized by not being able to release mature eggs or not releasing at all. the absence of a period and infertility. It is caused by an endocrine imbalance with increased levels of testosterone, estrogen, and decreased secretion of the follicle stimulating hormone, which aids in the release of the eggs. Numerous follicular cysts may develop. The affected ovary may double in size. It can also cause an increase chance of breast cancer and cancer of the endometrium.
