Just last year the GSXR1300 Hyabusa would have been the answer, but Kawasaki did two things to outstrip it this year: First, they put more cubes into the big Ninja 1400cc. Second and most important they dropped the carbeurators finally and now the ZX1400R Ninja is fuel injected like the Hyabusa always was. The 1400 Ninja wins the day ... this year.
And that dude that thinks a BMW bike is anywhere near the top of the speed food chain is smokin' rope.

alot of people on here do not know motorcyles. a couple had the right answer, and as one person already mentioned, last year it would have been the busa, but now the ZX-14R claims that title, but, all bike shut down at 183 now, so even the gsxr 1000's, R1's (which is my baby), zx-10's and so on have the same top speed. 183 MPH is 300 KPH which is international law that bikes have to shut down at 300 now, but in theory or withouit a governer, the ZX-14 would be the fastest...

Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 right now - probably a close run with a Suzuki Hyabusa - doesn't matter, though. Bikes are limited by law to 186 MPH from the factory.

Only one correct answer.

The fastest PRODUCTION bike is the:

Kawasaki ZX-14.

Horse power does not equal speed, torque to the rear wheel and gearing are what you want to look for. The easiest way to modify for more speed (on carb bikes) is a jet kit and a pipe. If you have a LOT of money then either turbo charge it or nitro.

Remember, the faster you go, the faster you die.

Busa and ZX are very near. As they are produced they are both limited to 300km/h. Accelerating is in you hands (and guts I should say)
