It usually means a 180 degree turn, as in a half-turn, such as facing south, then turning around to face north.

90=one quarter turn
180=half turn
270=3 quarter turn
360=whole turn

I've heard that expression in regards to skateboarding.

180 degrees is 1/2 a circle. To do a 180 means to change your view or opinion to the complete opposite of what it originally was. For example if you were completely against gay marriage but now support it you've done a 180.

It means that you did a complete reversal.

There are 360 degrees in a circle, 180 is half of that. So, if you were headed in one direction, and turned 180 degrees (half a circle), you'd then be headed in the exact opposite direction.
