LOL (also spelled lol) is an abbreviation for "laughing out loud", "laugh out loud", or less commonly "lots of laughter". It has been alleged to stand for "laughing on line" or "laugh on line", although these are most likely backronyms. LOL is a common element of Internet slang used, historically, on Usenet.

If you want to know any thing just search on Google or wikipedia.
and answer to your question in wikipedia, and this link from wikipedia to your question:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOL_%28Internet_slang%29
just search, you will know anything.

Hope i help you.

Enjoy.....

I used to monitor the Oakland police department on my scanner. To them it meant "little old lady"...Seems so many elderly women called in for no real reason they came up with LOL to make a joke of it...How can you forget "laugh out loud" ??
