I have a blanket box that I am staining for my wife. I know all outside surfaces, including the back and the legs, and the inside of the lid.

Do you normally stain the insides of chests?

It would make the piece have more of a finished look inside, but the stain could leach into, and stain what you are storing.Get some cedar like you can line a closet with, cut to fit and glue in place. That would be best for blanket or fabric storage(no moths).

You could also stain the inside, then seal it with a clear polyurethane,so as not to get any bleeding in the future

The best thing to try for at least 4-6 weeks is very soft warm cloths and lots of elbow grease. Do not use stains or polish until you have tried this you can spoil the wood by using those

Leave the entire inside unfinished, and in fact, you may want to use cedar oil on the unfinished wood to get the cedar chest smell. Too luck.

If she plans to store anything in it, no. The stain could leech into whatever she stores in it.

i wouldnt, because it might somehow get some humidity and moisten the stain and ruin what she puts in it!
