Actually there is a Women's World Cup but it's always overshadowed by the Men's World Cup.

There's a seperate World Cup for the women soccer team. The last world cup for women is hosted by USA in 2003. The next world cup for women would be in China in 2007. For the latest FIFA women's ranking , Germany is holding the top spot.

I had the privilege of watching the 99 Women's World Cup and it was one of the most amazing matches (USA vs China) that I've ever seen. Of course, women's soccer matches are different from the men (they don't kick as far, but I bet they kick as hard, and there are far fewer whining babies playing on the Women's team). All in all a very exciting event but under promoted. And no, putting sexier outfits on the women players will not make the game more interesting, it's still the same game! Idiot!

As others have pointed out, there is a Women's World Cup. My only problem with it is that they only use female referees and asssitant referees.
I'm all for equal treatment of the sexes, but as a woman, I find it offensive to restrict the assignments based on that one factor. I hate to admit it, but there have been some inferior female referees in the Women's World Cup. I thing they should assign the top referees (regardless of gender). If only one woman makes the cut, then fine, atleast we know we will have the best referees out there. But, I think then that the same standards should be used for the men's games.

Because in the World Cup, you have both women and women as target audiences, you guys watch the game and goals and all that stuff and we watch david beckham and other hot players.
In a female version, only guys would be the target market...

There is. The USA won it all in 99. The Chinese women's team was staying at the same hotel in Boston as I was. Actually, it was one of the burbs but Boston nevertheless.
I tried to talk to several of them but the chaperones would not have any capitalist pig talking to one of their girls.
