I am a magician, and after hearing countless people claim that David Blaine is the "real" thing, a miracle of God, let me clear things up. Any tricks that you see him do on TV are common magic tricks that you can find at any magic shop. The misconception that many people have with Blaine is that he is some sort of devil man endowed with powers from God (or Satan). Believe me, I've heard that, and it sickens me that anybody would think such a thing. The tricks that he does are nothing special, like I said, any magic shop would carry them. As a magician, I can do any trick that Blaine does but what makes him stand out is his performance style/character that he plays. A famous magician once said that "a performer is just an actor playing the part of a magician." Every performer has tailored their act and created a character that they portray in their act. Blaines character is a creepy guru type who presents himself in a way to make people believe that he is more than an ordinary person, but he is no different that the rest of us magicians. There are hundreds of street magicians out there doing the same things that Blaine does, he was just lucky enough to strike a TV deal. So, to answer your question, he is just an illusionist.

Used to really like him. Street magic really seemed like magic but I'm sure it was only illusions.

Now he seems to be doing more endurance tricks which don't touch on magic.

So far this summer I've seen and like Criss Angel and Keith Barry.

and

Both do tricks that leave you saying: " How did he do that? "
