Firstly, we are the Scots (one t)
We don't hate individuals because they are english .We just hate the fact that we are ruled by the english in effect. Apart from the bloody history (which is ancient history) we find it hard to deal with when you turn on supposedly British TV and all you get is england this and england that. Geographically, there's not much difference in the size, but all the english regions are cited in the weather. And then in Scotland...You'd never dream we could have sun in the south and snow in the Highlands
Then there's the annoying english habit of "the Queen of england" and e.g.english Live Aid (the 1st one) which was concieved by a Scot and an Irishman
Also, I've had engliashmen asking if we have airports in Scotland! Honest!
I could go on ad nauseum, but suffice to say that it's mainly the english attitude we don't like.
By the way, my best friend's an english woman. And very nice she is too

As a scot i don't hate the english, i live and work in england. i think the best answer would be yes some scots hate the english, similarly to some english hating the french or muslims. There are bigots in every country. What the average scottish person feels is that england through its culture look down on scotland as second class or beneath them. obvously this comes from our combined histories. More recently scotland is look upon as a less than a country for example with the creation of the scottish parliament and devolution, many english regions wanted a similar institution as if a region was the same as our country. Also in terms of achievement an englishman is an englishman in victory but a scot is british. There are many other examples but i feel hate is a strong word, dislike maybe, annoyed yes, hate i would think as a nation no.

No, not really, but there seems to be hell of a lot of anti-Scottish ranting from the English since we voted for a Scottish parliament, and more than 50% of English polled said they didn't want a Scottish Prime Minister. And don't even get me started on the BBC slanted weather maps that don't show Scotland properly. And we shouldn't be condemned for not supporting the England football team, since we're not English!

I hope not I married one. But some do, some welsh hate us, some Irish hate us. When we go to France we always tell the locals in the bars we are Scottish when asked if we are English. they treat us completely differently. But I have had more people in bars in Scotland trying to fight me when I talk and my wife called names for marrying a Englishman than the other way round. But I love Scotland and that's were I will live one day. But the kids will be English, just don't tell the wife!

Hi There,

Well, I ponder that question. Since I have, Scot/English genes, and throw in a few Icelandic, Irish, Nordic genes. I don't think my right hand will reach far enough to slap myself around.
Suppose, I could squeeze the English into my right arm, and the Scot into my left, I could wage a good old arm wrestle with myself. Ha ha Couldln't resist. Don't forget to breathe.... Well, the Bloody English have tried to Conquor the world at times.....

As an Irish person living in Scotland and observing as an outsider I'd have to say that an awful lot of them do hate the English. Shops up here sold out of Trinidad and Tobago shirts leading up to the world cup! Sad really!

We do not hate the english only their attitude to us as a nation.
Their football team won the world cup in 1966 & we have not heard the end of it yet. Everytime there is a football event they trot out that story.
Strangely, any scottish person who acheives something automatically becomes British but englishmen remain English.
