There many possibilities, hardware conflict, system over heating, software conflict etc. try cleaning out the computer with a can of compressed air and monitor your system temp, that would be the simple place to start, if that doesn't work IM e and we can go deeper into the issue.
That should be worth 10 points

That could be a lot of things. The most simple issue could be over heating. The computer will restart if the sensors on the motherboard detect too much heat. A few things you can do to cool your computer are clean the fans and make sure they are working properly. You could also open the case it won't hurt the computer. I had a computer I used to run with the case open to help keep it cool.

Considering you are still using 98, which is another issue in itself. There can be an abundant amount of problems. Virus, faulty power source, fan needs to be replaced or cleaned. One would have to diagnose the computer a little more to find out the root of the problem.

Your computer may have spyware, or someone has hacked into your computer. Try disconnecting your Internet connection, if your computer continues to suddenly reboot, it is either a hardware error or it is spyware. If it is spyware, download the Yahoo toolbar, and click on the link 3 buttons away from the Search Web button. Download the Yahoo Antispyware software and run the program.
If you suspect a hacker (if closing Internet connection solves the problem), try downloading the latest updates fromhttp://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/default.aspx?ln=en-us.
You might consider switching to Windows XP.

Your operating system likely has some corrupted files. Either reinstall your OS or just get a new computer. A windows 98 machine today is like driving a Model T

take the side cover off the case. (assuming desktop / tower) See if the fans are turning. There is a main one for the computer itself and then one on the CPU and maybe another somewhere in the case.
Sudden shutoff usually points to an overheating problem.

Get more ram for it. To do this, look up the model on the website of the make of the computer, or look at the label on the ram. When looking, find out the kind of ram it is (the three kinds are sd, ddr, and ddr2) (since it is running on win98, it probably has sd ram), and find out the speed of the ram. After getting this information, go on a computer electronics site and look for the same kind of ram with the same speed. Once you install it in the computer, it will run more smoothly. It depends on the model and the processor, but youtube would probably need at least 128 mb of ram to run, and probably 256 mb to run smoothly.

Are you using MS Internet Explorer? I and some of my friends have experienced the same thing while using Explorer and 98 SE. It seems to be some kind of bug/glitch. I would switch your operating system. We went to XP, and the problem stopped.
