This is EXACTLY the type of thing that every teenager has said about their parents and teachers for at least the last 100 years.
Every town has fewer high schools than they do middle schools and elementary schools...This has nothing to do with whether or not you're expected to graduate...It has to do with the fact that elementary school class sizes are smaller, and you teenagers are more equipped mentally and emotionally to negotiate your way thru a bigger school (have you ever noticed that your 1 high school is much bigger than any of the other schools?).
And, in truth, you will soon find out that your teachers are right. You're not paying attention. And as an adult, you'll realize what a dummy you were as a teenager, just like all the rest of us.
Besides, why is it up to your teacher to "get your attention"? If you're in her classroom, and she's speaking, don't YOU have some responsibility for being polite and paying attention? It seems to me that this is common courtesy, and a very basic life lesson that your parents should have taught you long ago. This is not a "rule from the 1950's"...it's normal behavior for people in any society.
I fully applaud your efforts to create an organization for teenagers. That is an excellent plan!!! I think it would be great if you could include connections to your student government (there should be a way to have a rep attend meetings?), local government (check your newspaper for dates & times for city council meetings), as well as state & federal government (maybe mock voting on big issues?). This can be an AWESOME way for you & your associates to speak your minds, and to show the grown-ups around you how intelligent and independent you really are!!!

First of all, I would like to clarify your statement “I feel that we as teenagers are not getting the attention and credit we deserve” is erroneous and haven’t been given much thought. Your teachers care a great deal of the profession they have chosen and that is to teach all of you.
The problem is not them, it’s this new generation of kids/teenagers as well as what this new age society has done. Kids and teenagers have more rights than parents and school teachers do. School teachers a long time ago were looked upon with respect from kids/teenagers. That’s how it was when I was growing up, however today, kids are disrespectful and irresponsible not only to their teachers but to their parents as well.
If you need to create a organization for teenagers, then do it for this. Get rid of your cell phones in school. They don’t belong there. Get rid of your IPODS, they too don’t belong there. Stop this IM nonsense. It’s hindering on your use of proper English. Get off the Internet, video games and TV, and get out there and learn about what the real life is all about.
Today’s kids are oblivious to all of their surroundings. None of you have any street smarts or common sense. You all live in a fantasy world of Hollywood and reality shows. I have seen 17 year old girls with the mentality of 14 year olds, and 19 year olds with the mentality of 16 years old.
Although they possess the proper body growth, the mind and intellectual growth is not there. So, please, don’t blame the school system or your teachers or anyone else. You are all individuals and you and only you possess the power to grow intellectually.

Yes, there certainly is. I'm one of those 50s kids and from my view, you have it a lot easier than I did, academically and otherwise. And it's a lot more fun being a kid now, if you can avoid the perverts. We couldn't do our research on the computer, use a calculator, word process our papers with grammar and spell check, dictionary and Thesaurus and whatever else. We didn't have a TV until 1956 or thereabouts. Now the kids whine that they are bored. Our mom's didn't have dishwashers, microwaves, prepared foods, automatic washers and dryers, more than one car and the list goes on. (I won't go there with the outhouse and all that.) Some things you can't change. Work hard and have a "can do" attitude, smile, think happy thoughts, be thankful, say your prayers, be kind to others, love and respect yourself and your family. There's too much money involved for adults to design a school system so that kids fail. Get real.

No offense, but maybe you SHOULD try to pay more attention in school - your grammar, vocabulary and spelling (if you are a native speaker) are appalling (and I am not a native speaker).
As for your accusation your teachers would not be trying hard enough to get your attention in class - don't you think that YOU should make more of an effort, since it's not their but your future that's at stake here. I do agree that teachers should take into consideration the interests and needs of their students but then you cannot expect them to compete with the mass media; that is not their job.
You argue that society expects you to fail and seem to "prove" that by the numbers of school of each type in your hometown - but please don't forget that normally elementary schools are smaller than high schools.
I think that it's a good sign that you want to take action for a cause you believe in but I am not sure that the problems you want to tackle are really as big as you make them out.

Teenagers and young-adults typically don't have a say in anything, and that's for a reason.
Before you're 18, technically you're still a child. Children, in the eyes of the government, don't know what they want, because they're too young to have experienced enough to be well educated so they may form their own opinions and such.
Many adults live by this rule, only because they feel that children are still that -- children.
There isn't anything you can do about this problem. You just need to deal with it. I'm 20 and I still have no say in my family. That's alright, I can deal with it quietly with my friends.
Good luck on your origization, however. Hopefully it'll take off. Just remember that you're going to be getting yourself into a lot of drama that you might not want.

I'm a teen, and i think are generation is failing miserably. It's not all are fault that wouldn't make sense. If they're doing the same things as before something has to be going on. Are generation just wasn't born with a smaller intellactual capacity. They have to do something before the drop out rate gets even worse it's already 30%. I feel like we've all been given up on.

I feel exactly the same way! It's like they want us to fail, they don't undertand that we have the capability to be smarter than them!
They're also taking away our childhood at a younger age!! Did you know that kindergarteners have to go to school for 8 hours like grade schoolers do?! That is crazy! They are only 6 yrs old!
We are soo much smarter than more adults and I think they all know that and they freak out so they want some of us to fail, like natural selection, survival of the fittest. It is crazy!
