You cannot avoid the awkwardness, its part of the process. If you really value this girl as a friend and want to take the relationship to the next level then you have to cope with the consequences. But is you both really value each others friendship then you can still be friends and should be friends. I have asked out some of my friends and all but one have said no, but we remain friends.

Be honest. If she rejects you and you feel awkward, be honest. If she feels awkward with your honesty then perhaps she's not the ideal candidate for a friend. Tell her how you feel and explain your fear. In the long term this is the only was to keep your dignity because you are remaining true to yourself.

Awkwardness is inavoidable in a situation like this one. It will fade over time though. You guys should be able to be friends, as long as you don't continue to persue this girl after she makes it clear that you can be nothing more than friends. I hope that you don't get rejected, it sucks.... But hey, It leaves you free to experience other great women. Good Luck!

there is a right and a wrong way of expressing yourself. 1st don't be overly abundant with your feelings. sometimes things like that will overwhelm a girl. 2nd maybe be more subtle by casually flirting and over time ask her out. when u do ask her out, take her to a movie where u can slowly make your way in to put your moves on her. last dont be too mushy or a "i love you" person all at once- you have to gradually move into that.

She may not reject you but if she does, you can TRY to be friends but it dosen't work for everybody. If you try to be friends and it feels awkward you may need to just let it go. The risk free way to go is to not mention it, but you'd never know what you were missing out on. Hope that helps!

I think you can still be friends but it will be awkward..you need to decide if you are willing to put up with that awkwardness that will surely follow

That is life. If you tell her your feelings and she rejects you at least you aren't wasting your time wondering. yes you can still be friends.

It is hard to say, you have to wait a time, time heal everything.
The other alternative is that you talk with her, that what happened
will not harm their friendship.
good luck¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡
