Okay...when I talk to people on the phone or online I don't really feel like I'm at a certain place, but I think about like an empty street and I don't feel like I'm walking or anything, but I see everything that's on the street......When I talk to my sister's best friend who I barely hear from, I see this corner of a street in my hometown and I see all the trees and everything exactly like it is!...and It's usually like a little place, like when I got my pen pal from New Hampshire a few years ago, when I'd talk to her I'd think about my elementary school playground......and then last night (this morning) I was talking to a friend from 1:30-7:30 on the phone and I had my eyes closed and I started out at this track in my hometown....then I went down this highway and then into this little neighborhood and I have no clue why it was such a long place...but it was like at least three miles.....but anyway....does anyone ever feel this way, or does anyone know why I do?

You are bored.

Your mind is multi-tasking, giving you a visual stimulus, perhaps a clue of something you want or something you want to say. If you could correlate the images with the persons, I might even go so far as to say you are filing away events by association or category. Do you doubt you ability to recall things? If so tat could be why you are doing this subconciously, without forethought. Then again you could just be daydreaming, zoning out like a lot of people do when they are bored. And "No", you do not always know when you are bored, just like you don't know when you are depressed, another possibility. You may be a glass is always half empty kind of person. You obviously are trying to fill it with all these different forms of communication. Perhaps you are unsatisfied with the way things are in your life, want more. Try this, start drawing things you imagine, and see if your visions go away, or come less and less. Channeling your visions from the abstract to the tangible may satisfy your doubts and cheer you up a bit. If nothing else it will give you something to judge, a diary of your images. I know of people with very visual memories. The ones who draw them out generally do better than the ones who ignore the opportunity and think it is just a thing they do. Enjoy.

That has happened to me before. When I asked some people said that it was just my overactive mind, creating a sort of world in which everyone I know is at. But what I really think is that when you talk to someone, you think about what they mean to you (wether you are thinking it on purpose or not) and that person reminds you of something (or somewhere). For example, you said that when you talked to your penpal, you saw your elementary school playground. That could mean that she reminds you of a playmate. Someone who used to be with you a lot playing at that playground. Or it could be that you think she would be fun to be with at that place, or that you think thats somewhere you'd like to meet her. You saw a street corner when you talked to your sister's friend. That could mean that thats the place where you last saw ( or imagined) her at. When talking to your friend so long you could think of it as a journey. A vocalized road. And when you closed your eyes you saw that road, that path, which started as a track and ended as a neighborhood. Many things could cause these visions and thoughts. And I must agree that mostly its caused by overactive minds. But its not a bad thing so do not worry!

I know what you mean, it's like everything you do or say automatically paints an image in your mind like you have no control over it. I'm not sure what causes it, I think it maybe because we're visual people, like photogtaphic memory, we're understand more what we see rather than what we hear and read. It's pshycology, it's the way your mind works and if you believe in Freud then all these specific images your mind creates mean something subconsiously. Look into the Freudian Theory.

Maybe you visualize all this because when you talk to this person, that is what they remind you of. It's like when you smell a certain scent, it might remind you of your grandmother baking or the perfume of an old flame. All five senses are connected, so don't worry about feeling crazy or anything like that, just go with it.

Personally, I have never felt like this before. But I do believe you are feeling like this because there is something in the conversation that triggers you to remember something in the past or somewhere you have been before. I hope this helps you out.

I know just what you mean, the same thing happens to me, you have a very good, active imagination, your mind is probably reminding you of past events, little things can lead to past thoughts. It could mean that you are meant to be a writer or a movie producer, because thoughts come easy to you, it is nothing to worry about, it is a good thing. :)

Sometimes I imagine that I am certain places when I talk to certain people. I thought it was just because I have a vivid imagination.

yeah, the association of certain words or thoughts of people bring up images of past places and events all the time for me.
