No. I think that is very much an oversimplification.

Economic hardship, including a sudden fiscal crisis played an important role but can hardly be seen as "THE" causes of the French Revolution. There were many other political, social and intellectual factors that came into play, and considerable disagreement about how to weigh them all.

In fact, some have very capably argued that the French Revolution, like the American Revolution was first of all ideological.

In part, yes. The French financed the American Revolution not only with arming American revolutionary soldiers, but also by sending over soldiers. About 40 percent of the fighting force against the English were French. Also the French used ships to block Cheakspeare Bay, thus not allowing British Commanding General Cornwallis any re-enforments,and giving the opporunity of Lafayettes army to capture Cornwallis in Virginia, forcing the end of the war. This however placed a great deal of financial burden on the French King Louis XVI and the peasants were up in arms they were being so heavily taxed and they revolted.

French revolution is seen as an attack on preveileges rather than on property in the ligt of modern researches. It should not be forgotten that bourgeoise or the modern day middle classes who played the core role in the French revolution were rich but were not satisfied with their status as compared to the third estate. So what I can agree is that the causes for the French revolution was equally political and social as well
