My Pastor says this is so, because God chose George Bush to be our President

I don't agree with this. Ask him what he thinks of Bill Clinton, Richard Nixon, and John F. Kennedy. Then ask him what he thinks of Adolf Hitler. Any criticism there? Is Germany any less a Christian nation than the USA? Didn't God choose Hitler to be a leader?

I believe in Jesus as my Savior, not a President.

God wants us to pray for our leaders and follow them, yes. But we have a responsibility to question them and hold them accountable as thinking people and as law abiding people. They are to be held to even higher standards than we are, according to the Bible.

This same reasoning of your pastor's is what Hitler used during WWII to brainwash nations to follow him in the name of God.

I think it's blasphemous to send so many soldiers into Iraq in the name of peace. I also think it's lying to say there are weapons of mass destruction where there are none to be found and arrogant not to admit your mistake.

This kind of thinking irks me. Why was there no talk of this when Monica was in the spotlight?

If you don't know who Monica is, ask your pastor.

Good for you for talking to your pastor, but don't forget you have the Bible to guide you. God speaks to you as much as He speaks to him.

Find a new pastor. THE PEOPLE chose Bush to be president. If you use his logic, then the people are God. So, don't insult me, it's blasphemy.

Any preacher that preached from the pulpit to vote for Bush (or Kerry, and there were a couple) needs to have their tax exempt status taken away (as do 529's like Move On and Swift Boats Veterans, but thats a story for another day).

No disrespect meant to God. Disrespect was directed at your pastor, who's agenda is far from divine.

God doesn't exist ( in my view) and I doubt he would choose a president who waged an unjust pointless war

You clearly are a dumb American, if everyone belived everything your pastor says then we would still be in the Middle AGes becuase the Church holds back everything.

Basically we cant prove God exists and THEREFORE you can NOT say that you are blaspheming against God when you criticize Bush because if God deosn' exist then he coudln't put Bush there

This is a particular form of delusion originally known as the "Divine Right of Kings" - essentially, Kings were seen to be God's representatives on Earth, and so could do no wrong, simply by the virtue of the fact that they WERE Kings.

This is by its very nature a wholly unAmerican concept (as you were the most impressive break-away from the power of the English throne), although it's also technically the concept that keeps the Pope from public judgment.

If you believe in the Christian God, then you presumably must be aware of the "existence" of the Devil. There are three potential powers on Earth - God, the Devil, and we flawed, dumb, clueless humans. Any one of the three could be behind the election of a President - it is NOT the sole province of God, and in the case of Mr Bush, it's almost guaranteed to be one of the other two :o)

Last I checked, Americans voted, and we have the electoral college to choose our elected presidents. If God was involved with that, I guess it was in so far as people prayed about who to vote for.

Criticizing a human, elected leader of a secular government isn't criticizing God.

George W. Bush is not God.

God did not choose George Bush. George Bush chose himself. That is why he cheated.
He did not count the votes of the minorities he did not like.
Florida's governor (brother Jeb, what a coincidence) assisted in the lie. Al Gore won, it was announced that he had won, then Jeb & his cronies take a hand & say "Oops, we got it wrong, George has won".
The real winner in that vote was Al Gore for more than one reason. He took it on the chin, like a man rather than cause public, worldwide embarassment to his country's system.
I never liked him before but he gained respect from a lot of people for that.
George Bush jnr. succeeded in making a laughing stock of USA & has continued to screw things up ever since.

God did not choose Bush. Americans did. And, no. You're not blaspheming against God just because you criticise Bush. So, keep on saying what you think about your president.

If your pastor says so, then it is blasphemy to speak out against any world leader, or any political leader at all, ever, because God chose them to lead.

If he is not consistent on this point, then he is a hypocrite.

Blasphemy is against God directly, or Jesus, or the Holy Ghost. Period. Otherwise, Aaron, the first Judge of the Bible, is a Blasphemer for speaking out against Pharaoh, as is Jonathan for speaking out against his own father over the treatment of Solomon.

As much as I like President Bush, you pastor is mistaken. Please don't confuse the presidency with religion, many of our past presidents were devout Christians and it was never an issue. Liberals have tried to paint a picture of President Bush that doesn't exist. He is a Christian and he does speak of his faith in the Lord in interviews if asked, he does invoke scripture in his speeches but he isn't pushing religion down any ones throat, he is just a Christian man. Christianity is so much a part of who he is that he is very comfortable with it.
