The biggest step you can take to lower your electric bill is to raise your thermostat. Each degree below 78 degrees can add three percent to the amount of energy needed for cooling. For some reason it does not make sense to me. It was on a paper that came with my electric bill.

The higher you set your thermostat the lower your bill will be.
For example. anytime you set the thermometer below 78 degrees your bill will increase by 3%. so every temperature below 77,76,75...etc, will increase it. They are just trying to tell you the hotter you keep it the cheaper your bill will be!

I hope this helps! :) have a great day!

Bottom line, if you want to save money on your electric bill during the cooling season, set your thermostat at 78 degrees or higher. For every degree below 78 degrees that you have your thermostat set it will cost you 3 percent more.

raising the thermostat does NOT mean turning on the heat!! It means not cooling the house down as much. So, the paper is right, raising the thermostat in summer will use less energy. Also, lowering the thermostat will use less energy in winter when you have the heat on.

you dont turn to heat on u just put ur thermostat at like 78 to 80 degrees and it keeps the humindity out of the house and the compressor wont have to run as long becasue the inside temp is set on as high but the rest of ur house will still feel good if its 90 + degrees outside
i keep my thermostat on 80 all the time during to summer and its never hot in my house

turning your thermostat up from lets say 75 degrees to 77 degrees will keep your house warmer but the A/C wont come on as much which will save you money. by decreasing it will cost you money. what they are saying is the warmer you set your thermostat the less cooling you will do and each degree you raise it will decrease your bill upto 3%

Like Julie said, if you keep your temp set higher; your A/C will run less. That's where you will save money on the electric bill, by NOT running the A/C all the time. In the winter you want to set your temp to a lower one, then the heat won't be on all the time trying to keep the house warm.

Ok, in the summer, it takes air conditioning to keep your home cool. Air conditioning requires electricity. If you turn your thermostat up your air conidtioning does not have to work as hard to keep you home at the higher temperature, thus using less electricity and lowering your energy bill.

Hope this helps.

thermodynamic efficiency is increased by regulating the thermostat to be closer to the ambient air temperature. The least efficient way is to "ramp" the temperature to a point that is not easily maintained, a non-linear power drain means small temperature changes require more BTU's than the previous attainable heat level.

Sure raising your thermostat will lower your energy bill but you will burn up in the process

Set it and forget it!

Use fans in the room you are in. Don't leave the fan running and not be in the room. This is summer time advice when it is hot out and you have to keep the house closed from the heat.

In the winter, wear a sweater if your cold.
