Japan had a lead in the game which was fortunate. However, instead of going forward to try to get another goal and seal the win, they sat back and let Australia attack them for most of the second half. Japan's coach was negative in his substitutions as well, and chose to take off a striker and replace him with a midfielder.Australia took the initiative and brought in more attacking players i.e. Aloisi, Cahill which made all the difference. Japan have themselves to blame for not finishing off the match earlier.

They made a lot of mistakes. One that really stands out is that Japan having short players were crossing the ball too much against a tall Australian team.

At the last 5 mins, they decided it was better to keep the score at 1. So the next choice was to strenghten defense, instead of continuing to score one more goal. Another factor was that at the last mins of match, they seemed very tired. They should had continue to try and sccore one more instead of trying to secure the 1-0.
