You should learn about all cultures and lifestyles because these are your fellow human beings. Staying closed minded does not help you to understand anyone. But you can keep your eyes closed and not care what goes on in our cultures, our government, our world, that is the american way, right. Ignorance is bliss.

I can't imagine that you are actually being forced to learn about variations in sexual variations. You might learn about differences in gender identity and sexual preference -- and those are good things to learn about, you know gay people, you may not realize it, but you do. You may even know someone who is transgendered underneath. Knowing something about gay culture is also not bad -- nor is knowing something about other cultures. Why would it be?

Perhaps your question was best summed up when you included the word "abnormal" -- I don't think anything is abnormal about being gay. Seems to exist in most animal species too -- and animal species that have pair bonding, have homosexual pair bonding as well. Evidently it developed for some reason.

You're mistaken.

Transgenderism has nothing to do with sex, it has to do with gender.

Likewise, gay culture is not about sex. It has to do with the history and interests of gay and lesbian people, as well as the transgendered. Our history is wide ranging from the military to the Church, to the Arts and Sciences, to philosophy and anything in the world you'd care to name. Our interests are equally as varied.

You are also mistaken that any of these is abnormal, which provides the perfect reason that everyone should learn about our history. Not only is it everyone's history, but the more people who learn about it, the fewer questions like this will be asked!

Ahh, now that I'm taking a Women's and Gender Studies course, it's fun that this came up. In learning about other peoples and cultures you learn why society thinks of and treats them as "abnormal" and thus you learn more about society as a whole and why it is the way it is. Ultimately, you might even get a sense of political justice out of it. If not, well, you're a smarter, more well rounded individual for learning about another group that's part of normal, everyday life.

So that those of us who are abnormal can get a kick out of watching you "nermals" squirm and fidget with disgust.

Seriously though, You might as well have asked "What's the point of studying history (it's in the past, can't change it...)?"

If we want to make informed decisions about our lives, and the impact that our choices will have on others, we need as much information as possible. By the sound of things, you're a confirmed heterosexual. I hope you find a wonderful woman who'll fulfil you. I hope that , together, you'll raise lots of well-balanced kids.

Just suppose (and I don't "wish it" on you - so don't take offence) one of your precious kids turns round and tells you he's gay...

Same reason you should learn about other cultures. To be a more knowledgeable, less judgmental person. I have had some really good gay friends before. And, I can tell you, most women will tell you that they would rather have a gay best friend than a female one.

God forbid , you might actually learn acceptance and tolerance . You might also learn that the people in these life styles are just like you and have the same things in common with you and all that sets you apart from each other is your sexuality . Imagine that
