That is a tough one. I know people who give their small children coffee. The caffeine in a regular coffee is no different than that of a regular soda. When you start talking Starbucks and a double mocha latte then you are getting into higher caffeine content as well as sugar.
I think at 13 having one now and then as a treat is ok. It shouldn't be something that is consumed in mass quantities...same as soda!

There isn't exactly a certain age of when you should drink coffee. But some parents think that if the child is too young and he/she drinks coffee, they might become hyper active. And coffee can be addicting, so some parents do not want their kids drinking coffee young. But 13 is okay. Jut not like 6 years old or something..

I used to drink coffee when I was little...I'm talking 3-6 years old! My mom would put milk in it to balance it out, but it was still coffee! I don't drink it now, because I kinda lost my "thirst" for it (so to speak) LOL! Anyway...I don't see a problem with it unless it affects your ability to fall asleep at night! Not getting enough rest during the night can hinder your progress the next day! So as long as you don't have any problems, I'd say go for it!

P.S. I don't know if it helps for asthma or not...sorry!!

So you're starting out on Frappucinos, the gateway drug...

Yeah, you're fine, as long as you're not downing five shots of espresso a day! My high school had a coffee cart in the hallway, and by the time I was 15 I'd say my friends and I were making regular Starbucks runs. Actually we preferred the local independent coffee shops, but you get it.

I let my daughter drink coffee, but only one cup a day. The caffeine in it helps keep her asthma away. It is much cheaper than using an inhaler.
