If you are over 18, then most areas the most you can work is 34 hours for part-time. At the 35th hour you become a full-time employee. Most fast-food chains won't let you hit the magic 35 if they hire you for part-time work because at 35 hours they have to pay you benefits. Some chains may be more generous than this so check with your manager.

If you are under 18, check with your state's department of employment for the rules. Most states have laws that let you work more as you get older, with 15 year olds not allowed to work more than 15 hours a week and sliding up to unlimited work for 18 year olds and over.
