Based on the questions and answers I see on here, our youth of today are NOT being taught anything about biology, their bodies, procreation, pregnancy, STDs, or anything else. It's scary!

I am the daughter of a teenage mom (though I am now 35 and have little kids of my own) and I think that the relationship between mother and daughter when the age difference is so small is an extraordinary thing. My mother and I are very close friends and i feel bad for others I know who's mothers are so much older than them, that they really have a hard time relating to each other as women.
So i don't think it is because people haven't heard of contraception, I think it is because there's folks coming back to earth who want to have young parents to learn about that dynamic - it's all part of the grand scheme of things, as I see it.

I really don't understand it either. Maybe I was just raised in a good home, but I knew right from wrong. I knew it wasn't okay to be having sex at a young age. My parents told me that if I were to end up pregnant, they'd kick me and the kid out. I don't know if they would have actually done that. But, I wasn't dumb enough to try to find out. There are plenty of TV commercials, radio commercials, and ads in magazines that promote awareness of birth control and std's. and there are plenty of places you can get contraception for free. So, I really don't think there is much of an excuse. Unfortunately, I believe there are a lot of girls with low self esteem and "daddy issues" that cause them to put themselves in that position of teen pregnancy. Then, with there being so many of them, I think the younger girls grow up thinking that its the cool thing to do. Like its a new accessory or something. Its kinda sad. I never wanted to give up my child hood to take care of another child. I'm 26 now, and I'm still not convinced on the whole kid thing.

Everyone assumes that teenage pregnancies are due to lack of knowledge about contraception. I think that another huge factor is that teenagers are having babies because they don't realise that they can do better things with their lives. They don't realise their potential to have a career and see the world before having children and think being a parent is as good as it gets. I can't wait to be a parent but at the same time I'm going to try my damn hardest not to get pregnant until I have fulfilled some other goals first.
Here is the answer I gave to another question similar to this

Mainly through stupidity and carelessness - I had an eastern European flatmate who was appalled by the number of young Scottish girls with babies - she said at home people would be ashamed of this and you just wouldn't see it. It is ridiculous especially in the UK where women have access to free contraception. In the old days people just got married when a pregnancy happened, but now they don't really care, and without parents who will take a hard line, these bozos are multiplying.

Parents don't teach their kids about contraception these days, as well as that parents don't seem to care where their kids are or wat they are doing. I have a 9 year old daughter and I make sure I know where she is all the time, I have educated her about sex and pregnancy and she has first hand experience of having a baby around, I have a 7 month old boy and both my kids help with looking after him. My other son is 6 and even he has been educated about sex. Peoplee these days just can't be bothered, whats the point of having kids if you don't teach them the ways of the world, they need to be educated for their own safety

Yeah, they heard of it, but for some, it is always not so easily accessible. Some people just don't have them oney or the means to get any. I, myself, was a teenage mother at one time, and was taking birth control. I still managed to get pregnant while on it, so you tell me?! But I learned from my mistakes, and had my other two children ten years after the first one, and am more able to take care of them in the way that they are supposed to be taken care of.

I think that parents aren' talking to thier kids, I know when I was growing up the subejcts of sex, drugs, etc were taboo with my mom, my dad just wasn't in tune with what was going on anywhere. I think it's the older, more old fashioned parents that have a hard time with it, it's just not common culture. I think that our generation (20's-early 30's) it will changes because we are the ones it happened to, I got pregnant at 19 and boy if I knew then what I know now I would have waited. But I know now that I have to eduacate my daughters, talk to them and don't be in denial, if you even think they are sexually active then put them on birth control it's the reality that everyone has to face to help our children progress.
That's my take on it.

In the UK it's because if they get pregnant then the council (housing authority) give them a flat (apartment) or a house to live in, which they don't pay for unless they are working.
I'm not putting these girls down though, as a lot of the time they have to get out of their parents homes for one reason or another and this is about the only way they can get decent housing.

For some people it may not always be easy to get those kinds of things with out there parents finding out in some way. its sad to know that is happening right now. I am sure some of it is because of low self esteem and wanting attention from guys they will do anything to get it, even risking it. I blame it on the teachers and parents.

Apparently not.
I think kids are having sex younger, as well, thus leading to more underage pregnancies. I've heard of 12 year old kids having sex on the school bus. When I was twelve all I wanted to do was play with my barbies. I thought boys had cooties.
Times they are a changin'.
