OK so the USA are powerful, wealthy and very large (geographically), we all know it. So why:

A: Are they not very good at football (soccer) if they have all these resources

B: Why did the American sports (eg American football, Baseball) never really get a global following?

This is not meant to be offensive but a genuine question as I have often wondered it, it seems strange that such a large, influential country has so little impact on these matters (other sports aside)

Thanks

I have been paying attention to this issue and it is just that soccer was here before baseball and those sports. and also most countries preffer soccer. another good thing to add is why doesn't the USA start using the metric system

I think soccer hasn't been on TV as much until the USA made it to the World Cup in 1990 and as their team has gotten better more people have gotten interested.

American sports are popular in other parts of the world; basketball is played here in the UK, I played softball at school, there are American Football teams here too.

Well for one thing, if you're going to be an athelete in America, soccer is definitely not the way to go if you want to be super rich. Perhaps thats why most focus on basketball, football etc. and you dont see that many talented soccer players in america.

As for american football, its like 10,000x more exciting than soccer.

I have to agree with you. I don't know why soccer hasn't picked up as much here than the rest of the world. I mean you always have to be on alert because you never really know where the ball will go and therefore be on guard 100% of the time (esp. goalkeepers)

It doesn;t matter on how great and powerful the country is, they can't force you to like their most popular sports
