To stay near by is an attitude i should have adopted.
I did not
When my parents died of old age and my sister died of cancer (she was 32 and had 3 children ) I did not have the courage to stay with them for unexplained reasons
.Ressentments against life ?
The idea that it was the end of a part of my life ?
Selfishness ?
The thing that i know is that i sincerely regret my behaviour.

I think it's natural to be afraid of death. My grandma died last fall, and even though I was with her in the few hours before she died, I was experiencing a health problem of my own and decided it would be best for me to leave. Sometimes it takes several hours to die, and sometimes people who are dying have a hard time letting go if everyone is still in the room with them, I hear. In fact, in my grandma's case, everyone ended up being out of the room, then she died about a half hour later. It would help to know a little more about your friend's point of view. If she is just uncomfortable about being in the room when someone dies, it may mean that she needs more information about what happens when that occurs. From a Mormon point of view, we believe that the spirits of all people continue living and progressing in a place called the Spirit World, and one day everyone will be resurrected and be reunited with their physical bodies without being subject to illness and death again, as a free gift from Jesus Christ. I don't know if you and she are Christian or something else, but maybe some more preparation and study is required.

I agree that it is different with each person, but I think your friend's family will regret it if they are not there. My dad died a few years ago first thing in the morning on the day he was supposed to be released from the hospital so he was all alone other than the nurses and doctors. Knowing that was one of the worst parts of his death.

Well, my Mom died in a hospital of cancer...We came and saw her daily...she was in a coma her last days...So I feel it is up to the individual....Because everyone's situation is different..I realize that...But now if your friend is YOUNG...I mean that would be very painful to actually watch her DIE!!!!! I have honestly never watched someone take their last breath..again, up to the individual on that matter...

I was with both my mom and dad when they died, until the very end. And with my mom, I worked for a funeral home at the time so I helped them transport her back to the funeral home to get ready for cremation. You couldn't have made me leave!!

I believe that it is diff. with each person. Some people are just not comfortable with death and would not wish to see a love one die. SOme people are more comofortbale with death (not saying that they want a person to die) but they are ok with being around dying individuals.
