Not sure of your year model. BUT, there a electronic part. Sometimes it inside the Distributor and Sometimes in on the Wheel area. It called an "Ignitor" (spelling?). IF, this it, cost about $200 new. You may be able to find it in a junk yard, just be sure the car you get it from is WRECKED!!!! That mean it was running!!!

It could be the oxygen sensor or the mass airflow sensor. They tend to breakdown under heat when they get old. If they give false readings to the computer it could cause it to cut the motor off. They may or may not give an engine warning light.

sounds like possibly the main relay is overheating. It is located in the under hood junction box. ( fuse/relay box under the hood) I have replace lots of them on your type of vehicle for the same symptoms.
Could also be the ignitor or pickup coil.
