Walking on tiptoes at this age is normal. Walking shoes are not necessary. In fact, they can slow down the process some. When your son does learn to walk you will quickly see that he has more trouble with shoes on.

As for the walker: Baby walkers do not help babies learn to walk. They exercise the wrong muscle groups. Babies learn to walk by first pulling up on things (like furniture) and then cruising around while holding on. The more time babies spend in walkers, the less time they spend actually learning the physical movements necessary for walking. Not to mention they are prone to accidents.

Walking well is often thought of as a 1 year old milestone, but actually it is a 15 month milestone. So if baby isn't walking by a year, don't worry. He'll get there!

I suggest limiting the use of walkers. Babies who use walkers for a long period of time have been found to have an abnormal gait when walking. And your baby probably learned to use tiptoes because of the walker. I suggest that if you have to use the walker, limit it to 30 minutes max at a time and no more than 3 times a day.

As far as shoes, babies don't need shoes unless they are walking outdoors or on unsafe surfaces. But if you're just home, just let him be barefoot. Being barefoot is the best as this allows for arch development of the feet.

Let your baby cruise (walking sideways while holding on to furniture) and he will figure out that tip toeing is not the best way to walk.

No you don't need to keep walking shoes on him at all times. You must be a new mom. I'm a mother of four boys ages 13,10,2 years and 2 months . the first three all started walking on the tips of there toes, the oldest is a football player and the 10 year old plays basketball for his school. i really wouldn't worry about it . Enjoy every moment of it ,soon he'll be running away from you (take lots of pictures) .

It is very normal. My 19 month old still walks on her tip toes, but she walks really good. She doesn't however walk on her tip toes in shoes.

I personal don't think that babies under a year should wear shoes. Their feet have not yet full developed. Put socks on him. And yes most babies walk on there tip toes at first.

He's fine. My girls did that, esp. the oldest. She didnt like the feel of the grass on her bare feet. My son, the youngest, still likes to run on his tip toes when he's excited and hes 2 1/2 now. Your baby boy is fine. Put shoes on him if you think he may need them to protect his feet, but I would say he doesnt need them otherwise.

He'll be perfectly fine! Don't worry, all babies do this. He'll grow out of it. As far as shoes go, maybe try putting shoes on if the pavement is hot. If he's just in the grass or something he'll be fine.

Not only is it normal but it is essential for brain development!

BUT...pediatricians don't recommend walkers anymore because they can be dangerous and they can cause a kid to skip developmental processes. The stationary play centers are OK.

Walk at one, talk at two. Your boy is coming along nicely. Maybe have shoes on if he is outside, but it will be confusing for him to not feel the ground beneath his bare feet!
