My computer is telling me that my ethernet cable is not plugged in and won't connect. I have replaced cables, I replaced the DSL modem. I also did diagontic check on my ethernet card. The phone company says my lines are fine!

If I understand correctly you are connecting your computer to your DSL modem via ethernet. Also you don't even get a link between the two.

If you have a switch or hub, try connecting the computer to that. If you get a link light you at least know that the network card and cable are ok.

You can try the same thing with the DSL modem but I'm not completely sure that is supposed to work. In other words if you don't get a link light that doesn't necessarily indicate a problem.

Another problem could be your cable type. You might need a special network cable called a crossover cable to connect your computer to the DSL modem.

are all the lights on the modem lighting up properly. if yes then go to network connections and then the properties of lan there in the 3rd tab there are all the options for internet. go the last one and go for the properties of it. there the properties for ip address and other things will be there. switch them to automatically assign ip. it worked out for me just try it out

u can call up ur customer service and find out.ask them to come n handle situations which u r not capable of!ha.... ha ......haa...dont u mind that..just kidding.
