Video Assist is a way for the director of a film to see exactly what the camera operator is seeing. Basically, the image captured by the camera is sent to a seperate video screen the director can watch. The Video Assist Operator controls that screen and can replay what has already been shot and to some extent, edit scenes together, giving the director a better idea of how the film is fitting together.
